Honda announces new Hybrid.
Tired of getting kicked by Toyota's Prius hybrid, Honda announces a new hybrid car to their line. The new hybrid will have an old name: the Insight, although it's a far different beast from the old Insight.

I can't help but notice that nowhere in the announcement of their new Insight does it mention what sort of fuel economy the car achieves.

Biodiesel on NPR this morning.
I woke this morning to this news story about biodiesel conversions on NPR. The full story is audio-only, alas, but it's worth a listen IMHO. I found myself wondering the same thing as the writers: if one guy in Wichita can do this, why can't Detroit?

Fun at Demotivators dot com.
The D.I.Y. function on the demotivators website resulted in this work of art ego-stroking. Wheee!

ETA: the link to the ego-stroking is broken now. Must have expired. Ooops. Demotivators still works though, so go and have fun!

Honda to recall thousands of Civic hybrids
Details here, but here's the important bits:

Tokyo February 10, 2007: Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans worldwide to repair a voltage converter defect which could cause a short circuit that would stop the engine and prevent it from restarting.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 2005 and September 2006.

Honda has received no reports of accidents resulting from this defect.

If you got it, flaunt it!
Nifty euro-style stickers allow you to show off your car's fuel economy. Click on image for more info.

ETA: no, I'm not connected in any way with mpgstickers.com and I don't make money when people buy these. I just thought they looked cool.

Brand new community!
Greetings. This is your friendly moderator (not that this is a moderated community or anything) here to welcome you to hybrid_vigor. Welcome!

If you own a hybrid vehicle -- any make or model -- this is the community for you. Feel free to post questions, brag about your fantastic fuel economy, etc.

If you're considering obtaining a hybrid vehicle, you're welcome here too. Got questions? Ask away! You've probably looked at the EPA estimates for hybrid fuel economy; here you can ask actual hybrid-car owners what they've really been getting when they drive. Is it okay to tow a trailer? How fast can you make your hybrid car go? And what about that huge tax rebate?

If you drive -- or are curious about -- other varieties of fuel-efficient cars, you're welcome here too. The community name is hybrid_vigor, but flex-fuel cars, hydrogen cars, biodiesel cars and just plain fuel-efficient gasoline cars are good topics for conversation as well. As are mass transit, ride-sharing, walking, bicycling, etc. It's all about the clean transportation.

Once again, WELCOME!!!
